Pricing

What it costs, before you ask.

Fixed fees for our estate planning work, published in full. Every price on this page is the total you pay, with VAT already included. We will confirm the fee in writing before we start, and it will not change unless the work does and you agree to it first.

Probate and estate administration

Estate administration is priced separately and is not covered by this schedule, because every estate differs. [Sachin: this block must be replaced with published costs information for uncontested probate before the site goes live — see section 5 of the rewrite brief. It is a mandatory requirement under the SRA Transparency Rules, not an optional page.]

Making a will

Powers of attorney

Prices are per document. Most people make both a property and financial affairs LPA and a health and welfare LPA. The Office of the Public Guardian charges its own registration fee on top, which is a disbursement rather than our charge.

Variations, registration and ongoing trust work

A deed of variation lets beneficiaries redirect an inheritance within two years of a death, which can change the inheritance tax position. Most trusts must also be registered with HMRC and kept up to date.

Questions people ask about our fees

Is the price on this page really what I pay?
Yes. Every figure includes VAT at 20%. The column on the right shows the fee before VAT, because businesses and executors often need it. Disbursements — fees paid to third parties, such as the Office of the Public Guardian's registration fee — are separate and we will tell you what they are before they arise.
What is the compliance fee for?
Identity checks and anti-money-laundering verification, which we are required to carry out on every client. It is charged once per matter.
What if my situation is more complicated?
Some work cannot be sensibly fixed in advance and is marked "Quoted" above. In those cases we give you a written quote before starting, and we will not exceed it without agreeing the change with you first.
Do I pay for the first conversation?
No. The initial consultation is free and carries no obligation. If we do not think you need what you came for, we will say so.
Can I pay in instalments?
[To be confirmed — remove this question if the firm does not offer instalments.]
